With testing underway, the 2025/2026 season is finally locked in. With one less team this year, it means we have said farewell to some old favourites but have also said hello to some new faces, so what changes have happened for the upcoming year?Team Principals have had a change, with Ian James now heading Jaguar TCS Racing, replacing the departing James Barclay. Both Lola Yamaha ABT and Cupra Kiro have also had a team principal change, with both Mark Preston and Russell O'Hagan being promoted to the team principal role.

In terms of teams, we lost Neom McLaren at the end of the last season, and Maserati had a rebrand, becoming the Citroen team. As we are at the end of the Gen3 Evo era, the Formula E bosses are assured that they can reach the 12-team limit by next season, although there is no news yet.

Several popular drivers, Sam Bird, Robin Frijns, Jake Hughes, Stoffel Vandoorne, and David Beckmann, have left the grid. Vandoorne has been named the reserve driver for Jaguar TCS Racing, while announcements regarding the other drivers are yet to be made.  Sam Bird and Robin Frijns have left FE altogether, continuing in another motorsport. Jake Hughes currently has a McLaren F1 Sim role, but we will have to wait to see where his motorsport future lies. Nothing is known about David Beckmann yet, but hopefully we will know in the future.

With these exits, we have also welcomed some new talent to the grid, with Felipe Dragovich joining Jake Dennis at Andretti Formula E team, Pepe Marti replacing David Beckmann at Cupra Kiro and Joel Eriksson replacing Robin Frijns at Envision Racing. I cannot wait to see the new rookies continue in the sport and progress. While Felipe Drugovich and Joel Eriksson have shown their Formula E chops before, the unknown is Marti, but with a strong couple of seasons in F2, I hope he adapts quickly and shows his skills.

With the change at Andretti, Nico Müller has joined Pascal Wehrlein at the now all-German Porsche line-up, with Antonio Felix de Costa having joined Mitch Evans at Jaguar TCS Racing. Mahindra Racing, Nissan and Lola ABT line-ups remain unchanged. Citroen have a completely new line-up with Nick Cassidy and Jean-Éric Vergne, and rookie standout, Taylor Barnard, joins Maximillian Gunter at DS Penske.

The number of races will be the most that we have seen, having seventeen races across eleven cities, as well as various changes to qualifying and the Pit Boost across the races, which have already been covered by another article on Shifting Gears.

With testing finished, we have seen different teams top the timing sheets, including Edoardo Mortara and Nyck de Vries, who topped with Mahindra Racing on the first and last day of the test, as well as Pascal Wehrlein and Dan Ticktum, also up there. We will just have to see where this season goes.
