It seems like the Formula E: Driver production team read my last post and announced that Season 2 of Driver was coming out just before the first race in Brazil a couple of weekends ago, during the break. So, in the two weeks before the first race of the season, I watched the latest four episodes.

Formula E: Driver Season 2 follows five drivers, Oliver Rowland, Pascal Wehrlein, Dan Ticktum, Antonio Felix de Costa, and Taylor Barnard, over the course of the 2024-2025 season, Season 11. It follows the difficulties of the season, with Pascal Wehrlein reflecting on the championship and that infamous crash in Brazil. Along with Antonio Felix de Costa, we also get more of the inside look into Porsche and their ongoing drama and issues, which leads to our conclusion of de Costa leaving the team.

Dan Ticktum's arc grows from Season 1, showing that he is still battling his persona, and hopes that he does not become a villain, unlike the first season. We also get insight into the would-be champion, Oliver Rowland’s personal life, and his race to be a world champion. Rookie Taylor Barnard also shows his progress throughout the season and his journey to a full-time race seat.

It accomplishes all of this in four episodes, attempting to condense the sixteen races into a short timescale. It does this efficiently, giving the audience unseen insight into the garages and the driver’s personal lives that even social media does not give us access to.

Driver Season 2 does not have many dramatic moments, instead focusing on human moments, like Oliver Rowland's mental health journey, Pascal Wehlein’s impact of his Sao Paulo accident and Taylor Barnard’s journey to Formula E, which took a lot from his personal life. It does balance this with exciting and unexpected race moments.

Season 2 does not have the plethora of different commentators of Season 1, but the three that they have, Nikki Shields, Sam Smith and Karun Chandhok, do add insight into the Formula E season, and all three offer a unique perspective. Like Season 1, it is four episodes and around 4 hours in total, so again, I must mention that I would like to see more perspectives of the drivers. If we get a Season 3, Driver, has slowly been going around the grid, so the more people who get involve mean they can see value in the series and want to get involved. If they do not get the villain edit.

The opposites of the other motorsport famous series continue to show how they differ. At the start of the season, Dan Ticktum jokes about wanting to be less of a villain. His depiction, though partly negative, is balanced by varied viewpoints. With the whole episode focused on Jeddah and Dan’s win, it is hard to say he is completely villainous, especially as fans wanted a Ticktum win.

Although Season 1 focuses on Antonio Felix de Costa and Porsche, it maintains neutrality, as both Porsche drivers also received some negative coverage in the media. With both series, it was safe to say that Antonio’s move to Jaguar TCS Racing was not a surprise.

We are now up to date with the Formula E Seasons versus a series of Driver, so I guess we will have to wait and see if their cameras are back on the grid next year. With a couple of fresh faces on the grid, we will have to wait and see who the next drivers to go under the microscope are and if they are at all.
