BTCC Finale: Who will win?

By the time the paddock arrived at Brands Hatch for the finale, the script was almost
written: Tom Ingram had an opportunity to seal his second BTCC drivers’ title. He
needed a strong showing in Sunday’s races to make the championship mathematically
untouchable. Meanwhile, rivals like Ash Sutton and Dan Cammish were still fighting for
podium spots in the standings, hoping for a slip from Ingram.
The independent and team battles were also on the line, with several squads eager to
end the year on a high. Team VERTU, with Ingram (and others), had a chance for double
title glory.
The earlier Sunday races helped set momentum. In Race 1, Dan Cammish asserted his
authority by dominating from start to finish, taking the win. Ingram, meanwhile, stayed
within touching distance, keeping his championship bid alive.
Race 2 was the one that really mattered for the title. Starting from fifth, Ingram switched
to the soft tyre — the only top-six driver to do so — and made progress early. A few
safety car periods threatened to bunch up the field, but Ingram executed with precision.
His team-mate Tom Chilton gave way at Surtees on lap 3, clearing the path for Ingram to
lead.
In the second safety car restart, Chilton’s car suffered an alternator failure, removing a
potential challenger and placing Ash Sutton directly behind Ingram. Sutton had made a
charge from ninth on the grid on medium tyres, but the soft-tyred Ingram was able to
maintain enough grip over the final laps to see off Sutton’s threat. Ingram crossed the
line roughly 2.4 seconds ahead, even clocking the fastest lap on the final tour. With that,
he mathematically clinched the 2025 drivers’ title — and did so before the final race
even began.
Race 3 was more about pride, podiums, and endings. Josh Cook stole the show by
claiming the final win of the season. He had dropped to third early behind Aiden Moffat and Jake Hill (reverse grid action), but quickly threaded his way through the pack. He passed Hill at Paddock Hill Bend and then muscled past Moffat at Surtees on lap 3 — just before a safety car was deployed.
On the restart, Ash Sutton managed to wrestle second place from Moffat, but Cook was
already gone. Sutton finished a solid second, and Jake Hill captured third.
Hill’s podium was particularly sweet — it was his final BTCC race before stepping away
from the series. Gordon Shedden came across in fourth, Aiden Moffat held on for fifth,
and Ingram, now merely running for the record books, took sixth.
The 2025 BTCC season wrapped in fitting fashion: championship stakes, tactical tyre
calls, safety car restarts, and a finale victory to savour. Ingram’s title feels well earned.
Meanwhile, the final race reminded us that every position, every overtake, still counts —
even once the main prize is decided.
